About vacant.day

Mission

vacant.day is a free, interactive holiday calendar covering 14 countries, 22 languages, and 3,000+ cities. We help travelers plan around public holidays, business professionals avoid scheduling conflicts, and curious minds explore how the world celebrates.

Our calendar goes beyond simple date listings. We show bridge-day opportunities, long-weekend planners, cross-calendar travel tools, and city-level accuracy — things you can't get from a quick search snippet.

Every holiday, on display.

Data Methodology

Holiday data accuracy is our core commitment. Our data pipeline follows a multi-source verification process:

  1. Official government gazettes — We source public holiday dates from official government publications, presidential decrees, and national gazette announcements.
  2. Cross-reference verification — Each holiday is verified against multiple independent sources to catch discrepancies, especially for moveable holidays (Islamic, lunar, Hindu calendars).
  3. Academic calendar portals — University academic calendars are sourced directly from official university websites and registrar portals.
  4. Community corrections — Users can report data issues through the correction button on event detail pages. Every report is reviewed and verified before updates are applied.

We update our data as soon as official announcements are made, typically within 48 hours of government gazette publication.

Data Sources

Our holiday data is compiled from the following source types:

We do not list individual source URLs to protect against automated scraping. If you need to verify a specific holiday date, use the correction button on the event detail page and our team will provide the source reference.

Feedback & Corrections

Found an error? Every event detail page has a Report button for data corrections. For general feedback, use the star-rating widget at the bottom of any page.
