Travel Guide & Tips
What It Is
Eid al-Fitr (Hari Raya Puasa) marks the end of Ramadan and is a regular national holiday in the Philippines — declared nationwide since 2002 as a gesture of inclusion for the country's Muslim Filipinos, who number around six percent and are concentrated in Mindanao.
In BARMM & Mindanao
The heart of the celebration is the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BARMM) and wider Mindanao. Communities in Cotabato, Marawi, Zamboanga, and Sulu gather for Eid prayers at mosques and open grounds at dawn, then feast, wear new clothes, visit family, and give zakat al-fitr (charity to the poor).
The Date
Eid follows the Islamic lunar calendar and depends on the sighting of the new moon, so the exact day varies and the national holiday is proclaimed shortly beforehand — falling around March 20–21 in 2026.
A National Holiday
Although primarily observed by Muslim Filipinos, Eid al-Fitr is a holiday for the entire country — a recognition of the Bangsamoro people and one of two Islamic holidays (with Eid al-Adha) on the national calendar.
