What It Is

Ramadan is the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm) and one of the Five Pillars of Islam. In 2026 it runs from about February 18 to March 19. It is observed by Filipino Muslims, concentrated in Mindanao and the Bangsamoro region, with a daily fast from dawn to sunset.

🍽️

The Daily Rhythm

Each day begins with suhoor, the pre-dawn meal eaten before the Fajr call to prayer. The fast — no food, drink, or smoking — is kept through daylight and broken at sunset (Maghrib) with iftar, traditionally opened with dates and water. Many attend Taraweeh, the special night prayers, afterward.

🕰️

Fasting Times in Mindanao

Because Mindanao sits near the equator, fasting times stay fairly steady through the month. Across Davao, Cotabato, and Marawi, suhoor ends around 4:50–5:00 AM and iftar falls around 6:05–6:15 PM. Exact daily times shift by a few minutes — follow your local mosque or a prayer-time app for the precise schedule.

In BARMM & Toward Eid

The Bangsamoro region comes alive with community iftars, busy mosques, night markets, and heightened charity (zakat and sadaqah). The month is not itself a national holiday, but it culminates in Eid al-Fitr (around March 20, 2026), which is.
